Kuan was born and raised in Xuancheng, China. In 2014, he received his B.S. degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering at Yangzhou University. Then he joined Prof. Hanfeng Ding’s group at Zhejiang University working on the total synthesis of interesting natural products. After obtained his Ph.D. in 2019, Kuan continued to work at Ding group as a postdoc. In October 2021, Kuan moved to Berkeley and joined the Maimone Group to learn more about the art of synthetic chemistry. Outside of the lab, Kuan likes hiking and watching science fiction movies.
